Best Dutch song of 2009

Free 40, the independant music website hosted by the radio dj's from zaanradio, were keen to spot our leeked track 'Slowdown' and put it on top of their ranking. Now they made a top 100 of best songs from 2009. Guess who's on top of top of the duch chart and 16th on the International chart.... Thanks guys!

Video time

2010, It's video time! The song 'Slowdown' is slowly taking flight and getting recognition here and there. So we teamed up with a couple of eager filmstudents wanting to make the music video. Today we started a new adventure in a big factory hall at -4 C. Go watch the making of.

on the wall

Photographer Jens van de Velde, who has been close to us for a few months now is a rising star in the music photagraphy scene. On one occasion he joined us in our rehearsal space, took out his camera and shot some rolls of film. One particular picture be for shown at his next exibithion. The grand opening of the exposition owill be on the 19th of December 2009 in Panama Amsterdam. Of course we will be on the stage together with Woot.

Slowdown, on top of the charts

YES, we are number one. Last week we entered the charts in free40. What is free40? free 40 is an independant chart put together by a panel of music lovers, active in the Dutch music scene. our song 'Slowdown' entered the charts on the 8th position and after a week we were on the 2nd. Right now we're on Nr 1 on both the Dutch indie Chart as the internationan Free40 Chart. Awesome!! this means a lot of airplay on some of the coolest indie stations. So tune in and you'll surely hear one of these days

 Drumz Pleaz

At last, after all those years of hard study, there is nothing more that they can teach our Barto. Finally the consorvatory must let him go, because there is absolutely nothing, no pattern, no paradiddle, no Moeller method that would even make him frown his eyebrows. And he will be showing this all on the first of June in Rotterdam. A whole evening Bartho will be puting his skills to display, together with Maurice Bleeker, Tres Mambini, The Codats big Band, Berthil Busstra, And of course Junkbeat. And for us this means that we'll be performing for a whole different crowd than that we are used to. Imagine a theater with only music students and teachers. Well I guess it makes our role as infant terrible all the more credible. Anyway you're invited to come!

  We bring you.... DRUMS!

Let us introduce you: Bartho 'The man of steel'. After the session with Dutch drum legend 'Hans Eijkenaar' we were sure. Junkbeat is even more intense with kickass live drums. But the drummer has to be good, I mean real good! Aftear a short audition we chose Bartho, because we saw the same enthusiasm and passion for music that we have. And only a week later we started performing live with Bartho. In two weeks time we hit the stage 4 times. The reactions from the crowd were pretty clear. Bartho is a keeper.

One week on 3FM with Rob Stenders

We're seeing quite a lot if the 3FM studio lately. From the 25th of May until the 28th, from 12.00 am untill 2.00 pm we'll be seeing a whole lot more. Junkbeat will be the featured band on Rob Stender's radio show "Eetvermaak". Every day we will have to forfill a crazy assignment. If we do this right we win minutes of airplay. On thursday Stenders will play our song "Slowdown" on national radio for the amount of time we've won. We have no idea what to expect but it will probably get pretty wild. So get your ears on and help us win those minutes. We want every body to hear the whole song on thurdsday!

Dave Stewart (Eurythmics) says: "It sounds great"

After finishing the mix of our song "Slowdown" we decided to let a couple of people listen to it, before we throw it out into the world. We always do this to get an idea on how our audience will react. One of those people was Dave Stewart (yes THE Dave Stewart). His personal opinion is: "It sounds great!!". And if Dave Stewart says so, I think we can agree that we did a good job. Don't you?

Premiere on KX Radio

Margje Teeuwen, our befriended artist and DJ was thoughtful to call us up in her radio show ChiKX to hear all about our little trip to NYC. That's great! So we gave her the premiere on our coming single Slowdown. A new mix with the new drums especially mixed for her the night before. This is the podcast.

Back in Amsterdam and back at work

We're back and safe in Amsterdam. New York is still buzzing in our brains and it will surely refrain in future songs. As you all have read on our blog, we had a awesome time in NYC. THe East Village rocks and we feel it might be the last place where you can feel the true soul of Manhattan. And this is where we were adopted into a group of artists and gorgeous characters. Anyway, now is not the time to sit still!! We are back in the studio to finish the last of parts of our album. This is the time where all ends meet. So keep your eyes and ears open. There is some great news coming soon.

Start spreading the news

we are now in NY. Far away from our hometown Amsterdam. But to keep everybody well informed on our adventures, we made a little blog with lots of videos and pictures. Click here to check it out.

Drums please!

"Holy sweet mother...." Is what we thought when we heared Hans Eijkenaar play drums to our music. Not only did he play the biggest, bad ass grooves and breaks to our songs, he just understood the whole intention right away, he just went on where we stooped. In only one day he nailed song after song in just one take. And we are still baffeled with the results. It gives our songs just that edge we were looking for. I'm sure you'll agree. And now it's back to the mixing table to put all that energy into the music for good.!!!

New York New York

Allready 2009 is turning out to be a  good year for Junkbeat. After the kickstart at 3FM Junkbeat is getting ready to hop the big pond. In the last week of february we are in the 'big aplle' to do some pre promotion for the album. First gig to be annouced: Arlene's Grocery, in the lower East Side of Manhattan.

Celebrating New Year with 3FM

To start 2009 with a bang, we will be in the 3FM studios for the first 6 hours of the year. 3FM DJ Bert van Lent and Rob Stenders will take over the studio and turn it into one great party. Junkbeat was one of the the featured Live acts on the show. And of course we played songs of our coming album "Primitive Force"... on national radio. How about that?

Whoomp there it is!

OK, it did take us a while, but I guess that's just how it goes when you do everything yourself, for the first time. And in the end it was all well worth it because we feel we came up with an album that holds everything that Junkbeat stands for at this moment. It will be available in hardcopy in January 2009. Go to MUSIC to listen.

Summer of Junkbeat

The Dutch press "3voor12" did an inquiry about how we experience the summer. Questions about how we spend the short Dutch summers. And what music keeps ringing in our heads during the long, hot summernights. You can read it all at www.3voor12.nl

Photos

Photagrapher "Willem de Roon" has agreed to do our album artwork.   We are in love with his work cause it expresses a screaming energy in situations that are actually serene and peaceful. And this overlaps the way we make music in so many ways. So we went to a surreal place with loads of heavy machinary and rust. Just the thing for Junkbeat!

BREED

Junkbeat has put the hands together with the fabulous guys of Breed (bestofbreed.nu). These guys ROCK in creative commercial thinking. and that's what they are going to do for us. "we just love your energy", is what they said ;)

Ruthless REMIX PAIN!

5 years of Junkbeat!! January the 4th Januari we'll celibrate our fifth aniversary in Winston Kingdom (Amsterdam). This will also be the last time we'll hit the stage before we are going to record our album. So cu ltr!!
